MECCHA CHAMELEON Custom Maps & Workshop
How to use the Steam Workshop, create custom maps, and find the best community-made stages.
Does MECCHA CHAMELEON Support Custom Maps?
Yes. The dev shipped a modding tool at launch, and the Steam Workshop is integrated for sharing and downloading community maps. Custom maps have become one of the most active parts of the community within days of release.
How to Download a Custom Map
- Launch MECCHA CHAMELEON on Steam
- Open the main menu and select Workshop
- Browse the available maps by popularity, date, or rating
- Click Subscribe on the map you want
- Wait for the download to complete (Steam handles it automatically)
- The map will appear in your lobby's map list when hosting a game
How to Create a Custom Map
Creating custom maps requires the official modding tool. As of June 2026, the tool is available to all players via the game's Discord and the Steam Community forums.
Quick Start
- Download the Map Editor from the MECCHA CHAMELEON Discord or Steam community
- Open the editor and start a new project
- Use the placement tools to add walls, props, and textures
- Set the Seeker spawn point and the Hider spawn area
- Test the map in single-player mode to verify it's playable
- Export as a .mcmp file
Map Design Tips
- Keep the Hider spawn area large enough for 6–10 players
- Provide color variety — a single-color map is impossible to hide in
- Add natural transition zones (corners, floor-wall seams, shadow areas)
- Test for sight lines — some Seeker vantage points can see the entire map
- Include distinct objects to mimic (paintings, statues, furniture)
Best Community Maps (June 2026)
Two-story mall with escalators and storefronts. Tons of retail objects to mimic.
Industrial aesthetic with trains, platforms, and waiting room furniture.
Rustic wood cabin interior, perfect for warm color paint jobs.
Futuristic sci-fi vibe. White rooms — very challenging for Hiders.
Comically detailed kitchen with food props everywhere. Great for new players.
Many paintings, sculptures, and wall art. Hiders have to choose carefully.
Map Balance: What Makes a Good Map?
The best custom maps strike a balance between Hider and Seeder fairness. Watch for these red flags when testing your own:
- Hiders can see each other's spawn points (gives away positions)
- One Seeker vantage point overlooks the entire map
- Hiders spawn in enclosed rooms with no good paint targets
- Map is too small for the lobby size
- Props clip through walls (allows glitchy hiding spots)
Submitting Your Map to the Workshop
- Open the Map Editor and load your .mcmp file
- Click Publish to Workshop
- Fill in the title, description, and screenshots
- Choose appropriate tags (indoor, outdoor, 4-6 players, etc.)
- Set the visibility (Public, Friends Only, Private)
- Click Submit — your map will be live within minutes
